For a head of government to visit the White House and not pose for photographers is rare. For a key ally to be left to his own devices while the President withdraws to have dinner in private was, until this week, unheard of. Yet that is how Benjamin Netanyahu was treated by President Obama on Tuesday night, according to Israeli reports on a trip viewed in Jerusalem as a humiliation.
After failing to extract a written promise of concessions on settlements, Mr Obama walked out of his meeting with Mr Netanyahu but invited him to stay at the White House, consult with advisers and “let me know if there is anything new” a US congressman, who spoke to the Prime Minister, said.
“It was awful,” the congressman said. One Israeli newspaper called the meeting “a hazing in stages”, poisoned by such mistrust that the Israeli delegation eventually left rather than risk being eavesdropped on a White House telephone line. Another said that the Prime Minister had received “the treatment reserved for the President of Equatorial Guinea”.
Left to talk among themselves Mr Netanyahu and his aides retreated to the Roosevelt Room. He spent a further half-hour with Mr Obama and extended his stay for a day of emergency talks to try to restart peace negotiations. However, he left last night with no official statement from either side. He returned to Israel yesterday isolated after what Israeli (LEFT WING) media have called a White House ambush for which he is largely to blame.
Sources said that Mr Netanyahu failed to impress Mr Obama with a flow chart purporting to show that he was not responsible for the timing of announcements of new settlement projects in east Jerusalem. Mr Obama was said to be livid when such an announcement derailed the visit to Israel by Joe Biden, the Vice-President, this month and his anger towards Israel does not appear to have cooled.
Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary, cast doubt on minor details in Israeli accounts of the meeting but did not deny claims that it amounted to a dressing down for the Prime Minister, whose refusal to freeze settlements is seen in Washington as the main barrier to resuming peace talks.
The Likud leader has to try to square the rigorous demands of the Obama Administration with his nationalist, ultra-Orthodox coalition partners, who want him to stand up to Washington even though Israel needs US backing in confronting the threat of a nuclear Iran.
“The Prime Minister leaves America disgraced, isolated and altogether weaker than when he came,” the (FAR LEFT WING) Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz happily said.
In their meeting Mr Obama set out expectations ULTIMATUM that Israel was to satisfy if it wanted to end the crisis, Israeli sources said. These included an extension of the freeze on Jewish settlement growth beyond the ten-month deadline next September, an end to building projects in east Jerusalem and a withdrawal of Israeli forces to positions held before the second intifada in September 2000.
Mr Obama then suggested that Mr Netanyahu and his staff stay at the White House to consider his proposals so that if he changed his mind he could inform the President right away. “I’m still around,” the daily newspaper Yediot Aharonot quoted Mr Obama as saying. “Let me know if there is anything new.”
With the atmosphere so soured by the end of the evening, the Israelis decided that they could not trust the telephone line they had been lent for their consultations. Mr Netanyahu and Ehud Barak, his Defence Minister, went to the Israeli Embassy to ensure that the Americans were not listening in. TIMES ONLINE

The Obama administration has not kept any of its promises to Israel regarding Iran.
The administration has never followed through on its commitment to enact tough sanctions against Iran. According to intelligence reaching Israel (and also Saudi Arabia), the administration is actually pursuing the reverse policy, trying its luck again on engagement with Iran, this time with the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.
• President Obama has begun enforcing an arms embargo against Israel without prior notice.
As soon as Vice President Biden was out of Israel, the president stopped a shipment of JDAM (Joint Direct Attack Munitions) bound for Israel, diverting it the American air force base on Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. This betokened the start of an American military embargo to deny Israeli the tools for attacking Iran. According to American military sources, the shipment contained 387 sets of advanced bunker-busting bombs of two types: 195 sets of the BLU-110 model and 192 sets of the BLU-117 model.• The administration is working actively to bring the Netanyahu government into international isolation.
Jerusalem is convinced the British foreign secretary David Miliband had Washington’s encouragement when he ordered a senior Israeli diplomat, the Mossad representative in London, expelled on the day Netanyahu was received at the White House.• No right-wing or centrist Israeli government can accept the proposition the Obama administration is trying to hawk that the unresolved Israeli-Palestinian conflict imperils the lives of American troops. Netanyahu found himself pushed hard against a wall by an administration which he saw would not scruple to bend him – or even break his government – if necessary to meet their objectives. At the same time, Netanyahu determined not to bow as long as his hosts persisted in what he saw as their “irrational behavior.”
Possible outcomes for Israel: Not good
What happens next after the Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s departure from Washington March 25 without a single point of agreement with US president Barack Obama and the traditional friendship buried deep under the discord?
This is not the first time an American president has targeted an Israeli prime minister whom he disliked. Usually, when the president brought all his weight to bear, he was able to contrive the Israeli leader’s fall from power. The late Yitzhak Rabin did not last long after fighting the Middle East policies laid down by Henry Kissinger and Presidents Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter in the 1970s. He was punished by a public reassessment of US relations with Israel and the secret stoppage of the flow of financial and military assistance.
Netanyahu had a similar experience during his first term in office when, in 1999, he clashed withBill Clinton, who refused to believe Yasser Arafat was preparing to launch large-scale war of terror against Israel. In all these cases, the Israeli voter punished the prime minister for the rift with America by throwing him out of office.
Barack Obama is sure history is on his side. The only difference between then and now is the openness, swiftness and brutality of the means employed by this US president to get rid of Binyamin Netanyahu. The process has only just begun and the hammer and tongs between Washington and Jerusalem is likely to escalate before the crisis is over.
How the MUSLIM POS could tighten the screws
Washington will start by putting its diplomatic, economic and military relations with Israel on ice. Senior US officials will forego their regular visits to Israel and the invitations to Israeli ministers will dry up, including those sent to the Israel embassy for official events. Exchanges will be kept down to inferior bureaucratic levels.
The administration will suspend its customary briefings to Jerusalem on diplomatic and strategic steps in the offing in the Middle East, as well as its hitherto standard practice of prior consultation with Israel on the implications of those steps. In other words, Washington means to cut Israel out of its decision-making processes on Middle East affairs.
Military ties will also be demoted from reciprocal visits by top US and Israel officers to exchanges between lower ranks. Responses to Israeli requests for weapons and replacement parts and US notifications of new weapons in development will be frozen. After stating solemnly time and again that no US government will go back on its commitment to Israel’s security and defense needs, Obama administration officials cannot afford to officially admit the relations are in limbo. They will just stonewall on Israeli requests by saying: “No answer yet.”
Israel’s UN delegation and its representatives in international forums are in for a hard time. US ambassadors will give them the cold shoulder and, instead of vetoing or abstaining from voting on hostile UN measures and condemnations of Israel, they will vote for them, especially when they favor the Palestinians. This will open the dam gates for a flood of anti-Israel resolutions. American financial institutions, banks and military industries will be encouraged to follow the White House lead in ostracizing the Jewish state.
The only area of cooperation to be left untouched is intelligence, DEBKA-Net-Weekly’s intelligence sources predict. Intelligence-sharing is not just a keystone of US-Israeli relations, but even the White House realizes that any interruption in the operation of their joint systems would seriously imperil both countries.
How might Israel respond?
Prime Minister Netanyahu has no illusions about the relative might of the United States and Israel and the former’s overwhelming capacity to harm the Jewish state’s vital interests. He will try applying soft soap for a time and pretending to the Israeli public that he is making progress in solving the crisis in relations.
But behind this front, he will work hard to shift the confrontation to the domestic US and Israeli political realms where he is more confident.
In the United States, Netanyahu will try and capitalize on the warm welcome he received on Capitol Hill Wednesday, March 24 – in contrast to his rough treatment at the White House. He will use this opening to rally US lawmakers for the application of counter-pressure to make President Obama back down from his harsh treatment of the Israeli government.
Knowing the ability of the two houses of Congress to force their will on the President in executive matters is slight, he will try and mobilize American Jewry for support and hope to persuade Jewish donors to withhold their contributions from the Democratic Party. At home, the Israeli prime minister may try and expand his government, establishing a national unity administration to head off the White House campaign to unseat him in an early general election.
He holds a card stronger than any held by his predecessors when they found themselves in a US president’s sights – and that is Iran. With nothing more to lose from the Obama administration, he would be assured of broad popular support if he decided to embark on a military operation against Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s nuclear sites. After the way he was treated in Washington, he would no longer feel obliged to consult with or even notify the Obama administration in advance.
The late Prime Minister Menahem Begin, who fell out with Ronald Reagan, overrode this US president’s objections and ordered the Israel Air Force to bomb the French-built Iraqi nuclear reactor near Baghdad. A month later, he won re-election at the polls. Such action by the Netanyahu government would throw President Obama’s Middle East calculus into disarray and make him rethink his attitude toward Jerusalem.

Other 12-year-old girls complain about homework and exams, but a fifth-grader in Medan had to run away and sneak into school just to attend classes after her father forced her to marry a 60-year-old man.
The girl, identified as AG, reported her plight to the Medan office of the Indonesia Child Protection Commission (KPAID) on Tuesday. Accompanied by her 28-year-old sister, AG said her parents forced her to marry the man, identified as MIG, in October. Rismawati, AG’s sister, told the Jakarta Globe on Wednesday that her little sister had escaped from her husband’s house and was staying with her.
“She ran away from her husband’s house because she really wants to keep going to school,” Rismawati said. She said AG was married by a cleric in front of their parents with a Rp 100,000 ($11) dowry. She said AG refused the marriage at first but their father beat her severely with a leather belt and punched her in the head.
Rismawati said they decided to go to KPAID after a police report they filed four months ago had no effect. Every day, Rismawati took AG to her school and waited for her until her classes finished. She said she was worried that MIG’s employees would kidnap her sister and take her back to his house and AG would not be able to return to school.
Rismawati condemned MIG for marrying her younger sister against her will. She said MIG was only thinking about his own needs while ignoring the fact that AG was underage.
Hasan Basri, of Medan’s education agency, said that while he regretted that a child who was supposed to be in school was married to a much older man against her will, it was difficult to interfere because it was a private matter.
Magdalena Sitorus, a KPAID commissioner in Jakarta, said some parents felt children were their possessions.

In the first killing of its kind, private security contractors shot dead a Somali pirate in a clash that left two skiffs riddled with bullet holes, officials said Wednesday.
The killing raises questions over who has jurisdiction over a growing army of armed guards on merchant ships flying flags from many nations. There’s currently no regulation of private security onboard ships, no guidelines about who is responsible in case of an attack, and no industrywide standards, said piracy expert Roger Middleton from the British think tank Chatham House.,(But you can be sure the leftie Muslim-sympathizers will create a law to prevent killing of these Muslim thugs)
“There’s no guarantee of the quality of individuals you are going to get,” said Middleton. “If you’re a shipping company, that could be legally concerning. It’s also concerning to everyone if you have individuals with guns and not much oversight out on the seas.”
The exact circumstances of Tuesday’s shooting are unclear, but the European Union Naval Force said guards were onboard the Panama-flagged MV Almezaan when a pirate group approached it twice. On the second approach, there was a shoot-out between the guards and the pirates. . Seven pirates were found, including one who died from small-
caliber gunshot wounds, indicating he had been shot by the detachment onboard the Almezaan, and not by the helicopter gunship.
“Once the skiffs and the whaler had been intercepted it was discovered that one of them contained a dead body that had sustained several small-caliber bullet impacts. Numerous bullet impacts were also visible on the skiffs and bullet casings as well as arms and munition of different caliber were found aboard,” said a statement from the Spanish Ministry of Defense.
“This will be scrutinized very closely,” said Arvinder Sambei, a legal consultant for the U.N.’s anti-piracy 
program. “There’s always been concern about these (private security) companies. Who are they responsible to? … The bottom line is somebody has been killed and someone has to give an accounting of that.”
Violent confrontations between ships and pirates are on the rise. Crews are becoming adept at repelling attacks by pirates and many more ship owners are using private security guards. Pirates are becoming more aggressive in response, shooting firearms and firing rocket-propelled grenades at ships to try to intimidate captains into stopping.
The International Maritime Bureau says 39 ships were fired off Somalia and in the Gulf of Aden in 2008, but that number increased to 114 ships by 2009. Earlier this month there were four separate shoot-outs in a single day between pirates, security guards and military personnel aboard commercial vessels.
Several organizations, including the International Maritime Bureau, have expressed fears that the use of armed security contractors could encourage pirates to be more violent in their approach. In Somali waters, it is often difficult to distinguish between pirates and fishermen until the boats are very close. Maritime experts have expressed fears that jittery security guards could accidentally open fire on ordinary Somalis.
Experts say piracy is just one symptom of the general collapse of law and order in the failed state of Somalia, which has not had a functioning government in 19 years. They say attacks on shipping will continue as long as there is no central government capable of taking on the well-armed and well-paid pirate gangs. FOX NEWS

The US has backed away from pursuing a number of tough measures against Iran over its nuclear program in order to garner Russia and China’s support for a new United Nations Security Council resolution on sanctions, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.
The newspaper quoted a number of sources who are familiar with the issue as saying that among provisions removed from the original draft resolution the US relayed to key allies in February were sanctions aimed at blocking Tehran’s access to international banking services and capital markets, and closing international airspace and waters to Iran’s national air cargo and shipping lines.
While Tehran claims its nuclear activities are peaceful, the international community fears it is aimed at developing nuclear weapons.

Authorities warn of ISLAMIC TERRORISTS using exploding breast implants.
FEMALE suicide bombers are being fitted with exploding breast implants which are almost impossible to detect, British spies have reportedly discovered.
The shocking new al-Qaeda tactic involves radical doctors inserting the explosives in women’s breasts during plastic surgery — making them “virtually impossible to detect by the usual airport scanning machines.”
It is believed the doctors have been trained at some of Britain’s leading teaching hospitals before returning to their own countries to perform the surgical procedures. MI5 has also discovered that extremists are inserting the explosives into the buttocks of some male suicide bombers.
Terrorist expert Joseph Farah claims: “Women suicide bombers recruited by al-Qaeda are known to have had the explosives inserted in their breasts under techniques similar to breast enhancing surgery.” The lethal explosives called PETN are inserted inside plastic shapes during the operation, before the breast is then sewn up.
The discovery of these methods was made after London-educated Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab came close to blowing up an airliner in the US on Christmas Day. He had stuffed explosives inside his underpants.
Hours after he had failed, Britain’s intelligence services began to pick up “chatter” emanating from Pakistan and Yemen that alerted MI5 to the creation of the lethal implants. A hand-picked team investigated the threat which was described as “one that can circumvent our defense”.
Top surgeons have confirmed the feasibility of the explosive implants. One claimed: “Properly inserted the implant would be virtually impossible to detect by the usual airport scanning machines. ”You would need to subject a suspect to a sophisticated X-ray. (And we know Muslims would never have be subjected to that because of their religion)

At 2 o’clock on a Monday morning, the sound of angry pounding sent Army Spec. Zachari Klawonn bolting out of bed. THUD. THUD. THUD. Someone was mule-kicking the door of his barracks room, leaving marks that weeks later — long after Army investigators had come and gone — would still be visible.

By the time Klawonn reached the door, the pounding had stopped. All that was left was a note, twice folded and wedged into the doorframe. “F— YOU RAGHEAD BURN IN HELL” read the words scrawled in black marker.
The slur itself was nothing new. Klawonn, 20, the son of an American father and a Moroccan mother, had been called worse in the military. But the fact that someone had tracked him down in the dead of night to deliver this specific message sent a chill through his body. 
Ever since he enlisted, he has been filing complaint after complaint with his commanders. After he was ordered not to fast and pray. After his Koran was torn up. After other soldiers jeered and threw water bottles at him. After his platoon sergeant warned him to hide his faith to avoid getting a “beating” by fellow troops. But nothing changed.
Then came the November shootings at Fort Hood and the arrest of a Muslim soldier he’d never met: Maj. Nidal M. Hasan, who is charged with killing 13 people and injuring more than 30 in a massacre that stunned the nation. And with it, things only got worse. Staring at the note in his hands that dark February morning, Klawonn trembled with panic and frustration. His faith, he believed, had made him a marked man in the Army. Now the November rampage had only added to his visibility. (Awwww, gee I wonder why?)
For Klawonn, this is what it means to be a Muslim soldier in the wake of the Fort Hood shootings: You hide your flowing jalebi robes in your closet. You watch your words and actions, censoring anything that could be interpreted as anger. You do so even as you try to ignore the names piled on you. Sand monkey. Carpet jockey. Raghead. Zachari bin Laden. Nidal Klawonn. (Carpet Jockey, I’ll have to remember than one)
But the hardest to shake off — the name that cuts deepest, especially for a man who defied his family and community to become a U.S. soldier — is this one: TERRORIST
Nearly everyone on base knows someone who was scarred physically or mentally by the violence of that November day. When the identity of the suspected shooter emerged — a Muslim major — the response was almost instant.
“Hey, Klawonn, your brother just shot them up.” “We better check Klawonn for weapons.” “Don’t piss him off, he’s gonna go Hasan on us.”
Even the more well-meaning soldiers pressed him to explain a brutal act and extremist philosophy that he himself couldn’t fathom. Instead, he denounced the shootings to anyone and everyone. Within 72 hours of the rampage, reports of discrimination against Muslims increased by 20 percent, according to the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, a watchdog group. “There were soldiers calling in crying on the phone,” founder Mikey Weinstein said. “They were hearing things like, ‘You can’t be trusted,’ ‘Go back to your own country.’ “
Klawonn’s mother reacted to his enlistment like this: Have you thought this through? What if you go to Iraq? Friends and others at his mosque grilled him, too: Are you really going to kill fellow Muslims? Is this not haram, forbidden?
At Fort Bliss in El Paso, he spoke up about his problems at a unit-wide equal opportunity training session. Two days later, in an episode that other soldiers saw, he walked into the barracks to find the Koran from his locker ripped apart and strewn across the laundry room floor. At Fort Hood, after another string of incidents, he finally broke down, sobbing in the offices of his two direct commanders. (Bet he didn’t cry after his fellow soldiers were massacred)
Their solution — confirmed by his current commanders at Fort Hood — was to send him to Korea, selling it as a fresh start with a new unit in a foreign culture. On his first day there, his sergeant responded to his request to pray and fast this way: “If I catch you praying during a duty day, I’m going to smoke the dog piss out of you. You understand me?”
While he was home, his mother heard about Muslims gathering for a lobbying event in Tallahassee and sent Klawonn to join them. What he saw there changed him. He returned to Fort Hood this month a different man, no longer content to stay inside the lines of command with his complaints. He had the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a Muslim civil rights group in Washington, send a letter to Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates. He also agreed to meet with a reporter from The Washington Post. (This ought get him a good beating)
Commanders at Fort Hoodquickly sensing a storm of controversy approaching told him to tread carefully. This is Fort Hood, they said, where no one has forgotten the November shootings. You need to be cautious about the attention you’re getting because you fit a similar mold as the suspect: Frustrated Muslim soldier, talking about Islam and the Army’s lack of respect.
This only fired him up more. “You’re looking at me as the problem?” Klawonn vented after one meeting. “What about the real problem: the soldiers threatening me, the ignorant slurs? After protesters at the University of Ottawa prevented Ann Coulter from giving a speech Tuesday night, the American conservative writer said it proved the point she came to make — free speech in Canada leaves much to be desired.
Then she said what she really thought of the student protesters who surrounded Marion Hall, making it too unsafe, in the view of her bodyguard, for the pundit to attempt entry.
“The University of Ottawa is really easy to get into, isn’t it?” she said in an interview with the Citizen after the cancelled event. ”I never get any trouble at the Ivy League schools. It’s always the bush-league schools.” READ MORE: OTTAWA CITIZEN
Speaking to students and academics at the University of Western Ontario Monday, Coulter said the e-mail sent to her Friday by Francois Houle, vice-president academic and provost of the University of Ottawa, targeted her as a member of an identifiable group and as such, she will be filing a complaint with the Human Rights Commission alleging hate speech.
“I’m sure the Human Rights Commission will get to the bottom of it,” Coulter said to loud cheers from the 800-strong audience. “I think I’m the victim of a hate crime here. Either what (Mr. Houle) did was a hate crime, or the whole commission is BS.”
In Houle’s e-mail, a copy of which was obtained by the National Post, the administrator urges Coulter to weigh her words with “respect and civility in mind” when she speaks at the University of Ottawa campus Tuesday.
“Our domestic laws, both provincial and federal, delineate freedom of expression (or ‘free speech’) in a manner that is somewhat different than the approach taken in the United States. I therefore encourage you to educate yourself, if need be, as to what is acceptable in Canada and to do so before your planned visit here.”
Houle goes on: “Promoting hatred against any identifiable group would not only be considered inappropriate, but could in fact lead to criminal charges.” Ezra Levant, lawyer and former publisher of the Western Standard magazine, spoke before Coulter on Monday and called Houle’s letter a “veiled threat.” VANCOUVER SUN

Terrorist Front Group CAIR demands investigation of trouble with Somali MUSLIM immigrants in Minnesota schools

The Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations today called on the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) to investigate and address reports of growing racial and religious tensions in Minnesota public schools.
CAIR-MN’s request for DOE intervention came following a series of anti-Muslim incidents reported to the civil rights organization by students across the state. Muslim students have allegedly been called “towel head” and other religious and racial slurs and faced harassment for their religious beliefs by other students and teachers. Some alleged incidents include:
* Two students approached a group of Muslim high school girls and asked them if they would like some pork bacon. When the girls informed them that their religion prohibited pork, the students made disparaging remarks about their religion. A week later, the two students brought pork bacon to school and shoved it in the faces of Muslim students and chased after them when they tried to get away.
* Students wrote racist essays for their English class and posted them on a class blog to harass Muslim students.
* A bus driver left Muslim students waiting at a bus stop on several occasions, driving past them when she saw them and telling them: “Catch me if you can.”
* A World History teacher made disparaging comments about Islam and Muslims in class.
* A teacher, on several occasions, handed students a can of air freshener and instructed them to spray the room when Muslim students walked into class. PR NEWSWIRE

While Muslim Congressman Keith Ellison spends his limited energy in Minnesota on ensuring missing Somali terrorists’ safe return to US, Muslim gangs are growing in areas where the State department resettled them. And mind you, the immigration numbers of Muslims from Somalia, “Palestine,” etc., have increased at a frightening pace — thanks to State department “Diversity” and “religious” visas: DIVERSITY VISAS DOUBLE IN JULY FROM SOMALIA AND “PALESTINE”
Ali was one of seven Minneapolis-area Somali men killed over a 10-month period, and authorities believe all were killed by fellow Somalis. Police say it’s too simple to tie all the killings to Somali gangs, which have lured hundreds of young community members to their ranks in recent years.
Those in the insular community willing to speak out, however, disagree. “It was all gang activity, totally, 100 percent,” said Shukri Adan, a former Somali community organizer who estimated in a 2007 report for the city that between 400 and 500 young Somalis were active in gangs. “The police don’t want to say that but everybody else knows that.”
Despite anger and despair over the killings in Minnesota’s Somali community — the nation’s largest — police and prosecutors have struggled to catch and try the killers. Few witnesses have stepped forward because of a fear of reprisal and deep-rooted distrust of authority.
Last month, prosecutors dropped the murder charge against the teenage boy in Ali’s case after one witness backed out and another apparently fled the state.
The Muslims are more afraid of Islamic retribution than the limpwristed US law enforcement authorities. Gangs like the Somali Hot Boyz, the Somali Mafia and Madhibaan with Attitude have grown more active in recent years, said Jeanine Brudenell, the Minneapolis Police Department’s Somali liaison officer.
The recent spate of killings started in December 2007, when two Somali men, ages 27 and 25, were found shot to death at a south Minneapolis home. No arrests have been made in that case.
They culminated last September, when a man was fatally shot outside of the Village Market Mall, a cluster of Somali-owned businesses and a popular destination for local Somalis. Investigators believe the shooter was retaliating for the death of his cousin, one of the other slain Somalis.
Investigators in a separate criminal investigation have said they’ve also had trouble penetrating Minnesota’s Somali community. The FBI is looking into the disappearance in recent years of up to 20 young Somali men, mostly from Minneapolis, believed to have been recruited into Islamist terror groups back in Somalia.
The first sign of progress in that investigation came this week with the indictment on terrorism charges of two young Somali men, at least one of whom is accused of traveling to Somalia to fight.
Elsewhere in the U.S. and Canada, police and community officials have reported an increase in Somali gang activity. ATLAS SHRUGS

A diner was left furious after a KFC restaurant refused to sell him a bacon burger – because it wasn’t Halal (Islam-approved).
Alan Phillips was told the restaurant was no longer selling his favourite ‘Big Daddy’ burger, which contains a chicken burger with bacon, cheese and salad, because it had decided to sell only halal food. The Burton-on-Trent branch is one of the 86 out of 750 British KFC restaurants which is now selling nothing other than halal meat.
The company has taken the burger off the menu because Islamic dietary law forbids Muslims to eat anything which has been prepared on the same premises as pork, which is itself strictly forbidden. It said it was responding to ‘increased demand’ for a halal menu in the areas of Britain with growing Muslim populations. (Christians be damned)
Mr Phillips said he found the change ‘extremely unfair’ on non-Muslim customers. ‘I can’t believe a chain like this has taken this stance,’ said Mr Phillips. ‘Staff told me that due to the dietary laws halal meat could not be prepared in the same place as other meats, so I couldn’t have my bacon.
‘It was like they were saying I couldn’t buy bacon because it might offend people.’ (NOT people, Muslims)
Mr Phillips was told he would have to travel to another KFC five miles away to buy his bacon burger. He protested that this was too far for him to travel. ‘It is getting silly,’ he said. ‘I have many friends who are black, white and Muslim but they wouldn’t be forced to eat non-halal meat.
‘I have no problem with them selling halal meat, but I would like the choice.’ In order for meat to be considered halal it must traditionally be slaughtered by hand and blessed in the name of Allah.

And it cannot be kept on the same premises as banned substances including pork and alcohol. KFC said the chickens in its halal restaurants had not been slaughtered by hand and that it had not changed any of its welfare standards.
Demand for halal food in Britain has surged in recent years as the Muslim population has grown. Latest figures show the number of Muslims in Britain is growing ten times faster than the rest of the population. The number of Muslims in Britain soared to 2.4million – an increase of 500,000 in the four years from 2004 to 2008.

‘We would only ever offer halal as a choice and to do that we had to have the kitchen literally split down the middle, with different staff and different equipment. ‘While it was technically possible to do it, it just wasn’t feasible.’
High-end restaurants and shops have also been keen to benefit from the growing market for halal produce.
Luxury department store Harrods now sells boxes of sugar-coated fruit pastilles and raspberry and blackberry fruit-flavoured gums made using halal gelatin.
KFC spokeswoman Nina Arnott said the halal trial was expected to last ‘a few months’.
She said: ‘We’ve responded to requests to provide halal food in some parts of the UK and the Middleway Park restaurant in Burton is one of the restaurants taking part in our trial.
‘The Big Daddy is the only product we’ve taken off the menu at our trial stores and we’re using exactly the same ingredients and exactly the same tasting chicken as before.
‘We’re sorry Mr Phillips feels disappointed but we’d recommend he visits our nearest non-halal restaurant, at the Derby Xtra services five miles away, if he wants to get his hands on a Big Daddy burger.’ UK DAILY MAIL via TROP
