If Obama is so opposed to Israel striking Iran, why is the Pentagon speeding up production of giant bunker buster bombs?

The Pentagon has brought forward to December 2009 the target-date for producing the first 15-ton super bunker-buster bomb (GBU-57A/B) Massive Ordinance Penetrator, which can reach a depth of 60.09 meters underground before exploding. DEBKAfile’s military sources report that top defense agencies and air force units were also working against the clock to adapt the bay of a B2a Stealth bomber for carrying and delivering the bomb.
The Pentagon has ordered the number of bombs rolling off the production line increased from four to ten – a rush job triggered in May by the discovery that Iran was hiding a second uranium enrichment plant under a mountain near Qom – a discovery which prompted this week’s international outcry. (Oh, so he knew since May and acted like he was so surprised by the news last week?)
Congress has since quietly inserted the necessary funding in the 2009 budget.
All this urgency indicates that the Obama administration has been preparing military muscle to back up the international condemnation of Iran’s concealed nuclear bomb program, (No he isn’t, he’s going to have Israel do his dirty work and then condemn them for it) its sanctions threat and his willingness to join the negotiations with Iran opening on Oct. 1 in Geneva. Tehran may have to take into account a 
possible one-time surgical strike against its underground enrichment facility as a warning shot should its defiance continue. In particular, the world powers this week demanded that Iran open up all its nuclear facilities and programs to full and immediate international inspection. Failure to do so could bring forth further US military action.
According to our military sources, the earliest date for the accelerated Pentagon program to produce a super bunker buster bomb mounted on a stealth bomber is December 2009 or January 2010. This too is three years ahead of its original schedule.
Pressed into service are two US Air Force research centers for work on adapting the radar-evading stealth bomber to the giant bomb: the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright Patterson Air Force Base and the Munitions Directorate and Air Armament Center, both headquartered at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.
Last month, DEBKAfile quoted Air Force Lt. Gen. Mark Shackelford as disclosing that the Pentagon had decided to accelerate the production of 10-12 giant bunker buster bombs in response to intelligence received of Iranian and North Korean underground nuclear plants. DEBKA

AMSTERDAM Mayor wants to withhold unemployment benefits from Burqa-wearers

Better yet, they should be given a one-way ticket back to the Islamic sewage country of their choice. Why are they in the West if they want to live like 7th Century freaks?
If you are not prepared to compromise, he adds, you cannot expect to receive benefits intended for those genuinely trying to find employment.
Speaking in an interview in the daily newspaper Trouw, Mayor Cohen emphasized that he is opposed to a general ban on the burqa, since it is an expression of religious belief. However, in situations in which contact with other people is necessary, such as at school or in the workplace, he argues that women should choose a less restrictive head covering.
In 2007 an Amsterdam court stopped the council in nearby Diemen from cutting a woman’s benefit for wearing a burqa. The Lower House of parliament then introduced a motion to allow councils to reduce benefits for burqa-wearers. Urge Elected Officials to Back Patriot Act Reform
(WASHINGTON, D.C., 9/28/2009) – CAIR is asking American Muslims and other people of conscience to contact members of the U.S. House and Senate Judiciary committees who represent them and urge these officials to support legislation that improves some of the Patriot Act’s civil liberties violations.
Three sections of the Patriot Act will sunset, or expire, at the end of the year, allowing an opportunity to revisit the law in its entirety.
Last Tuesday and Wednesday, hearings examining the Patriot Act were held in both the House and Senate.
Speaking at the House hearing, ACLU Policy Counsel and former FBI agent Michael German summed up the civil liberties community’s concerns saying, “Put very simply, under the Patriot Act the government now has the right to know what you’re doing, but you have no right to know what it’s doing.”
Last Thursday, Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI) proposed the JUSTICE Act “to place reasonable safeguards on the use of surveillance and other authorities under the USA PATRIOT Act.” The bill’s official designation is S. 1686.

Although the cases were addressed at different time periods by the FBI and other agencies, nevertheless, the thickening web of Terror attempts breached the crossing line of US national security.
This week, authorities revealed three conspiracies by American Jihadists: Michael C. Finton, a 29-year-old man who wished to follow the steps of American-born Taliban John Walker Lindh, was arrested after trying to detonate what he thought was a bomb inside a van outside a federal courthouse in Springfield, Ill.
Hosam Maher Husein Smadi, a 19-year old Jordanian national was arrested after placing what he believed was a bomb at a downtown Dallas skyscraper. But perhaps the most troubling case is of Afghan-born Najibullah Zazi who set up shop in suburban Denver , scouting the Web and visiting beauty supply stores in a hunt for chemicals needed to build bombs for Al Qaeda.
Sources called the alleged plot one of the most significant terror threats to the U.S. since 9-11. Add to the list the North Carolina Jihad cell, led by Saifullah Boyd, which was planning on attacking civilian and military targets across the country.
The immediate question raised by an increasingly worried public is about the connection between all these terror cases: are they all connected? While law enforcement and certainly judicial authorities proceed in a bottom up reasoning, that is to build the case for a global connection between all what is happening with the help of legal evidence, analysts in the field of counter terrorism and conflict are already realizing the meaning of what is happening inside America.
In my book Future Jihad: Terrorist Strategies against America (2005-2006) I clearly projected that Jihadists, individuals and cells will be mushrooming and expanding inside the United States within few years from then and that they will precisely do what they are trying to do now.
I have also projected how large they will become, with time. It was a simple deduction: if the Government doesn’t counter this ideological growth, Jihadists will keep coming. And in fact they kept coming, spreading crossing the barriers of ethnicities, races, nationalities and geographical frontiers. The Jihadists committed to harm the US , and based inside our borders, are now by the hundreds. Now unfortunately, we are meeting the cells of Jihadism in our cities and little towns, and sadly the expectation is that we will see more, and we may unfortunately not be able to stop them all from reaching their goals.
The North Carolina cell, the New York subway plot, the Dallas attempt, the Illinois case, added to the previous cases of the shooting of a soldier in Arkansas, the precedent New York cells, Georgia’s young Jihadists, all the way back to the infamous Virginia paintball network, if anything gives us the genome of what is morphing inside the country — a vast body of dispersed 
cells with at least one binding force — the Jihadi ideology. The question thus is to find out who is propagating the doctrines of Jihadism: who is funding it; who is protecting the indoctrination operation which leads naturally to the rise of homegrown or foreign linked, lone wolves or packs of Jihadists, Terrorists.
This is not a matter of only local police or law enforcement efforts. President Obama and Congressional leaders from both parties must give this spreading plague a top priority: for if one of these groups is successful, our national economy will crumble again, or at least will be wounded even more severely, let alone the human consequences of terror. Americans are watching with great concerns, these terror plots being revealed. They expect their elected officials to address these fears before the worse happens. GLOBAL POLITICIAN

EGYPT: Muslim students from Europe – Scholars or Terrorists?

Young men with downy beards, caps, kneelength a traditional Arab galabeyas and sandals sat chatting in a McDonalds’ restaurant in Nasr City, a large middle class district in the eastern part of Cairo. Women wearing concealing black garments and veils over their faces scurried around the small dusty streets between their apartments and the neighborhood shops. They were not from here and they barely spoke any Arabic. Asking around revealed that every one of them came from Europe and most of them have North African roots.
In the neighborhood Egyptians, the European Salafists – Sunni religious fundamentalists – are outsiders. Ashraf, a 26-year-old Dutchman of Moroccan descent, came to Cairo a year ago. “To learn Arabic,” he says, “the language of my religion.” He had just visited the mosque, where many kindred spirits go to pray five times a day. A not-so-secret agent of the security service stood outside the mosque. The house of prayer is under surveillance.
In addition to language lessons, they usually follow courses in Islamic law offered by teachers ranging from the renowned Al-Azhar University to clandestine imams without permits. “Religious fanatics want to be taken seriously.”
Al-Fajr is popular among import Salafists and Al-Gohari acknowledges that some come to Egypt with bad intentions. “Most students are mainly centered on themselves and their faith, but some come here with firm opinions about Islam and call anyone who sees it differently an infidel.“
The Egyptian security service is concerned about the situation. It therefore keeps a close eye on fundamentalist visitors with a European passport. Students say their homes are regularly searched and they are randomly taken in for questioning. “They ask stupid questions, like how often do I pray each day,” Ashraf describes his brief time in custody. “As if you are an extremist if you do what Allah has ordered.”
The Egyptian authorities claim there are dangerous individuals with jihadist intentions among the European students. A number of students from France, Belgium and the United Kingdom for instance are suspected of involvement in a bomb attack in Cairo in February which killed a French tourist. The chief suspects — Dodi Hoxha, a French woman of Albanian descent, and Farouk Taher Ibn Abbas, a Belgian of Tunisian origin — have been subjected to heavy-handed interrogation since April, a diplomatic source reported on condition of remaining anonymous. Both studied at Al-Fajr, director Al-Gohari confirms when asked.
The Belgian chief suspect reportedly confessed that he had been ordered to return to Belgium to prepare a bomb attack in Paris. Questions from this reporter about evidence were not answered. But an informal source in the Egyptian public prosecution department said the suspects had travelled from Egypt to the Gaza strip and became involved with extremist groups there.
It is not the first time the Egyptian security service claimed to have rounded up a cell of jihadist European students. Three years ago, nine French people, two Belgians and a Dutch person, all of North African origin, were picked up. They were allegedly recruiting suicide commandos in Egypt for the war in Iraq. Not if you were listening to the news on radio today. They told us about the plane being turned around at LAX before it took off but conveniently forgot to mention that the cause was two Arab terrorists men.
The LA TIMES reports that the men were Middle Eastern but not in the headline.
Jet halted at LAX; two men are removed by police
A plane was stopped from taking off from Los Angeles International Airport, and two men on board were taken into custody, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
LAPD Lt. John Romero said the men, who appeared to be of Middle Eastern descent, were acting suspiciously. (Maybe they were praying for Yom Kippur today?)
A law enforcement source said at least one of the men ran into a restroom on the plane and appeared to hide while the New York-bound jet was taxiing on the runway, according to the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the case was ongoing.
The flight crew confronted the two men and made the decision to stop the plane before it took off, the source said. The men were taken into custody by heavily armed law enforcement officials.
The plane has been taken to a remote area of the airport to be searched by a bomb squad, sources said. LA TIMES

Mayor of Moscow Yury Luzhkov compared the activity of the capital’s authorities with that of religious organizations and described it as “jihad.”
“Religion is Jihad, but not the one that scares people, rather, it helps people to create,” Luzhkov said at an international conference Russia – Islamic World: Partnership for Stability held on Thursday in Moscow.

Luzhkov noted that the city’s authorities “respect the world of Islam and Islamic communities and seek to create such environment that allows every Muslim to meet his or her religious needs.”
Estimating the international situation, Mayor Luzhkov came out against imposing by the USA their life principles on the rest of the world. ”We must and will develop according to our own will, and those traditions given to us as the basis of our life by our ancestors,” he said. INTERFAX

Hamas, the radical Islamist movement that violently seized power in the Gaza Strip, controls at least two of the car tunnels.

Cars are brought in piece by piece from Egypt. A handful of the hundreds of smuggling tunnels in the Rafah border area are dedicated solely to the auto operation that started a few years ago. The entrepreneurs who run them say they’ve managed to bring in 30 to 40 vehicles in the past few months alone.
“We receive a car in four sections plus the motor,” says Abu Bilal, a mechanic who, like others involved in the enterprise, gave an assumed name. ”We verify that everything is OK and then we begin to reassemble it right away,” he says, as his team prepares to get to work on a 2004 BMW fresh from the subterranean passages.

“We need two weeks to reassemble a car, since we have to solder the pieces and repaint the body,” Abu Bilal says. “The client chooses the colour.” Tunnel operators buy the sections — mostly from stolen or repossessed vehicles — in Egypt.
“Smuggling cars is more difficult than smuggling fuel, for example, since we are dealing with large pieces that can be detected and this means a lot more care has to be taken during transport, since Egyptian security on the other end are watching carefully,” Abu Bilal says.

The business is lucrative. ”A car on the Egyptian side costs us 6,000 to 10,000 dollars on average,” says Abu Saed, another trafficker. “Once we re-assemble and repaint it, we sell it for at least double that.”
But it is also a risky business. One of the tunnels was hit last week by the Israeli air force. “After that raid, car smuggling was briefly halted,” a smuggler said. The Israeli military usually targets smuggling tunnels in retaliation for attacks from Gaza on the Jewish state. The tunnels are used to bring in supplies as well as weapons into the impoverished territory.

Tunnel operators say Egypt too is increasingly cracking down on the underground smuggling, by pumping sewage or gas or by throwing explosives into the tunnels.
In his Gaza City auto shop, Abdel Sattar is putting the final touches on a 2009 Mitsubishi four-by-four that has just been assembled and repainted gray. ”It’s ready to be sold,” he says, looking proudly over the paint job. “I think I can get 20,000 dollars for it.”

Too late to stop Iran, so let’s crack down on Israel

Iran is clearly confident enough in America’s ability to hold Israel back from striking its nuclear sites that it is staying defiant and evasive about its nuclear program.
Barack Obama’s histrionics at the UN and G20 and his ‘threats’ of conrontation over Iran’s concealment of its nuclear capabilities – were water off a duck’s back for Tehran, whose nuclear weapons program has gone too far to stop by words or even sanctions.
The Islamic regime only responded with more defiance, announcing that its second uranium enrichment plant near Qom would become operational soon.
The US president’s tough words and willingness to step out of his axiomatic insistence on dialogue and turn to economic warfare against Iran may be impressive but it is no longer effective. Tehran is too close to its goal of a nuclear weapons capability to be deterred by offers of engagement or economic penalties.
Obama understands that Iran is now unstoppable except by force. His performance was therefore directed at another target: Israel, whom he is determined to dissuade from resorting to military action against Iran’s nuclear installations.
Defense secretary Robert Gates hit the nail on the head when he said Friday: “The reality is there is no military option that does anything more than buy time. The estimates are one to three years or so.” In any case, Israeli leaders argued, Iran’s nuclear ambitions were a threat to the whole world and it was therefore incumbent on the “international community” to take care of them.
This of course did not happen. Iran carried on exploiting international inaction, finally capitalizing on Obama’s foot-dragging in his first nine months in office. By now, Iran has used the gift of time to process enough enriched uranium to fuel two nuclear bombs and is able to produce another two per year. Its advanced medium-range missiles will be ready to deliver nuclear warheads by next year.
Caught red-handed yet again in massive deceit, the Iranian president Mahdmoud Ahmadinejad had only more defiance to offer. America owes his government an apology, he told interviewers in New York Friday, because the new plant would not be operational for 18 months, and Tehran had therefore not violated International Atomic Energy Agency rules requiring notification.
Saturday, the Iranian news agency was informed by an aide of supreme leader Ali Khamenei that “the new plant would become operational soon.” Iran’s published concealments and deceptions are disquieting enough. But a whole lot more are undoubtedly buried in fat intelligence dossiers on Iran’s nuclear program – plutonium production, for instance.
Sarkozy was clearly thinking about those undiscovered Iranian secrets and evasions when he declared in Pittsburgh: “Everything – everything must be put on the table now” (at the October 1 meeting of the Six Powers with Iranian negotiators). Obama too urged Iran “to come clean.”
All the powers concerned – the US, Russia, France, Germany the UK and even China – have the same information as Israel and are fully aware that Iran has already crossed a number of red lines this year and will cross more in 2010.
The more time allowed for diplomacy and engagement, the greater Tehran’s defiance. Meanwhile, world powers will argue – not over futile sanctions, but on how to stop Israel, so wasting several more months. DEBKA

Forget Iran, Israel should bomb Washington

On the footsteps of President Obama’s speech at the United Nations, the Quartet led by Obama’s Secretary of State Hillary Clinton reiterated President Obama’s call for Israel to stop all building activities in East Jerusalem and the territories. In a joint communique, the Quartet went on to encourage the Palestinians to build institutions of state during the next 24 months. This is an endorsement of the Fayaad plan to declare a Palestinian State in 2 years whether or not Israel and the Palestinians come to a formal agreement.
The Quartet – U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, U.S. Special Envoy for Middle East Peace George Mitchell, High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union Javier Solana, European Commissioner for External Relations Benita Ferrero-Waldner and Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt-met in New York on September 24, 2009. They were joined by Quartet Representative Tony Blair.
In the words of the Quartet, “Recalling that transformative change on the ground is integral to peace, the Quartet welcomes the Palestinian Authority’s plan for constructing the institutions of the Palestinian state within 24 months as a demonstration of the PA’s serious commitment to an independent state that provides opportunity, justice, and security for the Palestinian people and is a responsible neighbor to all states in the region.”
In endorsing the Fayaad plan, the Quartet has broken new ground as it follows Obama’s aggressive lead. Israel is being iced out of the negotiating process. If Israel does not capitulate to dividing Jerusalem and to retreating to indefensible borders look for Obama and the Quartet to recognize the Palestinian State, and Israel will become an international pariah state.
In dealing with the settlements, the Quartet considers all the West Bank as occupied territory and prohibits even “natural growth” – a growing family adding a bedroom to an existing house or even a porch to a backyard. The sentence dealing with Jerusalem reads, “The Quartet urges the government of Israel to freeze all settlement activity, including natural growth; and to refrain from provocative actions in East Jerusalem and calls on the Palestinian Authority to continue to make every effort to improve law and order, to fight violent extremism, and to end incitement” While Israel is instructed to give up tangible matter the Palestinians are simply urged to make a good effort.
The communique does not refer to Israel as a Jewish state. With the United States leading the way the forces aligned against Israel are becoming bolder and brasher. ONE JERUSALEM
