US Senate majority leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) sent a letter to President Barack Obama last week criticizing the latter for his administration’s heavy pressure on Israel to be the facilitator of the Middle East peace process.
Reid noted that Israel has already met many of its peace obligations, while the Palestinians after 15 years have not fulfilled even their most basic commitments, namely to recognize the Jewish state’s right to exist and eliminate the threat of anti-Israel Palestinian terrorism.
“I believe negotiations will be successful only with a renewed commitment from the Palestinians to be a true partner to peace,” wrote Reid in response to Obama’s and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s insistence that a complete halt of all Jewish construction in Judea and Samaria is what is needed to kick start the peace process.
Reid also took issue with Obama’s assertion in his policy speech in Cairo earlier in the month that the Nazi Holocaust was the basis for State of Israel’s existence. The basis for Israel’s existence, Reid schooled the president, is “the historic kingdom of Israel, which was established more than 3,000 years ago.”
Lastly, the senator firmly disagreed that getting the Israelis and Palestinians to sign yet another peace document would facilitate his efforts to diplomatically curb Iran’s nuclear program. Reid wrote that the Iran situation must be dealt with separately and with a commitment that is not dependent on progress in the Israeli-Arab peace process. ISRAEL TODAY

Mr. Obama never mentioned the belongings I still own in Egypt and will never recover. My mother’s house, my father’s factory, our life Egypt, our friends, our books, our cars, my bicycle. We are, each one of us, not just defined by the arrangement of protein molecules in our cells, but also by the things we call our own. Take away our things and something in us dies. Losing his wealth, his home, the life he had built, killed my father. He didn’t die right away; it took four decades of exile to finish him off.

Mr. Obama had harsh things to say to the Arab world about its treatment of women. And he said much about America’s debt to Islam. But he failed to remind the Egyptians in his audience that until 50 years ago a strong and vibrant Jewish community thrived in their midst. Or that many of Egypt’s finest hospitals and other institutions were founded and financed by Jews. It is a shame that he did not remind the Egyptians in the audience of this, because, in most cases — and especially among those younger than 50 — their memory banks have been conveniently expunged of deadweight and guilt. Obama’s new battle plan will get more Americans killed

(AP) The top U.S. general in Afghanistan will soon formally order U.S. and NATO forces to break away from fights with militants hiding in Afghan houses so the battles do not kill civilians, a U.S. official said Monday.
The order would be one of the strongest measures taken by a U.S. commander to protect Afghan civilians in battle. American commanders say such deaths hurt their mission because they turn average Afghans against the government and U.S. and NATO forces.
Civilian casualties are a major source of friction between Afghan President Hamid Karzai and the U.S. The U.N. says U.S., NATO and Afghan forces killed 829 civilians in the Afghan war last year.
Gen. Stanley McChrystal, who took command of international forces in Afghanistan this month, has said his measure of effectiveness will be the “number of Afghans shielded from violence,” and not the number of militants killed.
McChrystal will issue orders within days saying troops may attack insurgents hiding in Afghan houses if the U.S. or NATO forces are in imminent danger and must return fire, said U.S. military spokesman Rear Adm. Greg Smith.
“But if there is a compound they’re taking fire from and they can remove themselves from the area safely, without any undue danger to the forces, then that’s the option they should take,” Smith said. “Because in these compounds we know there are often civilians kept captive by the Taliban.” CBS NEWS

As Stephen Hayes relates, Mousavi’s spokesman has taken a whack at Obama for suggesting there is not much difference between Mousavi and Ahmadinejad and at those like Sen. John Kerry who say this is purely an internal matter for Iran. It is becoming increasingly difficult, if not impossible, to justify the president’s passivity as some crafty calibration meant quietly to aid the protesters. There simply isn’t any credible excuse for the president’s reticence, at least if one thinks that the overthrow of the Iranian regime is a good thing.
Obama totally misses the point. The election allowed the political space and provided the spark for the eruption of anti-regime fervor that has been simmering for years and awaiting its moment. But people aren’t dying in the street because they want a recount of hanging chads in suburban Isfahan. They want to bring down the tyrannical, misogynist, corrupt theocracy that has imposed itself with the very baton-wielding goons that today attack the demonstrators.
And where is our president? Afraid of “meddling.” Afraid to take sides between the head-breaking, women-shackling exporters of terror — and the people in the street yearning to breathe free. This from a president who fancies himself the restorer of America’s moral standing in the world.

MUSLIM DEARBORNISTAN bars Arab Christians from handing out pamphlets

A federal judge has upheld a decision by festival organizers in Dearborn, Mich., which is about 30 percent Muslim, to ban a Christian ministry from handing out religious information on public sidewalks.
DEARBORN, MI – The ruling came from U.S. District Judge Nancy Edmonds and affects this weekend’s celebration but will not affect the free speech lawsuit over the event, filed by the Thomas More Law Center and the Becker Law Firm.
The case is being brought on behalf of the Arabic Christian Perspective, a Christian group that ministers to Muslims. According to the Thomas More Law Center, Pastor George Saieg and scores of his volunteers have visited Dearborn for the city’s Arab International Festival to hand out religious information several times.
At estimated 30,000 of Dearborn’s nearly 100,000 residents are Muslim.

While there never has been a disruption of the public peace during the five years the ministry has been attending, this year Dearborn police warned Saieg he and his group would not be allowed to walk the public sidewalks to hand out information and instead would be confined to a specific spot, the lawsuit said. After negotiations in Dearborn failed to restore the Christians’ rights, the lawsuit was filed.
“It’s ironic that while Americans are applauding the free speech exercised by hundreds of thousands of Muslims on the streets of Iran, the city of Dearborn is restricting free speech rightsChristians are attempting to exercise on the city’s public sidewalks,” said Richard Thompson, president of the Thomas More Law Center.

The separation between the sexes in Saudi Arabia is so extreme that it is difficult to overstate. Saudi women may not drive, and they must wear black abayas and head coverings in public at all times. They are spirited around the city in cars with tinted windows, attend girls-only schools and university departments, and eat in special “family” sections of cafes and restaurants, which are carefully partitioned from the sections used by single male diners.
At Prince Sultan University, where Atheer Jassem al-Othman, 18, is a first-year law student, a pair of second-year students recently spent a mid-morning break between classes showing off photographs of themselves dressed as boys.
In the pictures, the girls wore thobes, the ankle-length white garments traditionally worn by Saudi men, and had covered their hair with the male headdresses called shmaghs. One of the girls had used an eyeliner pencil to give herself a grayish, stubble-like mist along her jaw line. Displayed on the screens of the two girls’ cellphones, the photographs evoked little exclamations of congratulation as they were passed around.
“A lot of girls do it,” said an 18-year-old named Sara al-Tukhaifi who explained that a girl and her friends might cross-dress, sneaking thobes out of a brother’s closet, then challenge each other to enter the Saudi male sphere in various ways, by walking nonchalantly up to the men-only counter in a McDonalds, say, or even by driving.- “It’s just a game,” Ms. Tukhaifi said, although detention by the religious police is always a possibility. “I haven’t done it myself, but those two are really good at it. They went into a store and pretended to be looking at another girl — they even got her to turn her face away.”
Grinning, Ms. Tukhaifi mimicked the gesture, pressing her face into the corner of her hijab with exaggerated pretend modesty while her classmate Shaden giggled. Saudi newspapers often lament the rise of rebellious behavior among young Saudis. There are reports of a recent spate of ugly confrontations between youths and the religious police, and of a supposed increase in same-sex love affairs among young people frustrated at the strict division between the genders. Newsmax has learned that the Obama administration also has zeroed out funding for pro-democracy programs inside Iran from the State Department budget for fiscal 2010, just as protests in Iran are ramping up.
Funding for pro-democracy programs began in 2004, when Congress earmarked $1.5 million of the State Department budget for “educational, humanitarian, and non-governmental organizations and individuals inside Iran to support the advancement of democracy and human rights in Iran.”
The funding ramped up dramatically two years later, when Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice requested $75 million for pro-democracy programs. More than half of the $66.1 million Congress finally appropriated went to expand U.S. government-funded Persian language broadcasting services at Voice of America and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
But no money has been earmarked for such programs in the administration’s fiscal 2010 foreign operations budget request. Congressional sources told Newsmax they doubted that a Democrat-controlled Congress would add it when the budget comes before a committee next week
When reporters asked White House spokesman Robert Gibbs on Thursday about the president’s “hands-off approach,” Gibbs said there was “no debate in the White House” over how to address the events in Iran. “Everybody is on the same page. There’s no difference of opinion. “The explosion of a carefully planted IED mangled Sgt Edwards below his body armor. The first person to him was U.S. Navy medical Corpsman Christopher Anderson. The man they called “Doc” Anderson immediately applied tourniquets to Edwards’ shattered limbs and started an IV to ward off shock.
As they raced for the LZZ to meet an inbound casualty-evacuation helicopter, Edwards looked up at the man who was checking his pulse and said, ‘take care of my babies, Doc.’

Marine Sgt Gregory Edwards was on his third deployment to Iraq when new wounds sent him back to Walter Reed. He’d been wounded on his second deployment and spent time recovering at Bethesda and Walter Reed. When 1st Bn, 6th Marines, was slated for a third deployment, he insisted on going along.
This time, however Gregory Edwards’ road to recovery would never end. Though the doctors operated on him more than thirty times, they couldn’t save his shattered legs. When all the surgery was done, he had one stump above the knee, a stump below the other knee, and only one functioning hand.
‘I lost my legs for the people of Iraq, so their children will be able to run around, just like mine. If time was turned back, I’d do it all over again,” said Sgt Edwards, father of two.”

“The reality is that we are headed for an Islamic Republic of Europe thanks to, on one side, our high rate of abortions and promotion of gay marriage, and on the other side, mass immigration of Muslims.”
There is nothing new here. We knew what Sarkozy’s vision of the future was: an “Islam of France”, “métissage” between races and ethnic groups, dissolution of nationalist, regional, and ethnic identities, subjugation to Brussels, openness to socialism, and a Turkey as closely aligned with Europe as possible, etc…
But it’s always sobering to hear it again, from one who knows Sarkozy personally. Philippe de Villiers was interviewed by the weekly Famille Chrétienne. The Catholic blog Le Salon Beige relates part of the interview:

This in turn is accomplished through the principle of non-discrimination and the disassociation of marriage from the sex of the spouses (which appears in article 7 of the Charter of fundamental rights). In reality, there are two weapons being used by European leaders to kill Europe demographically: the promotion of gay marriage and en masse abortions. Ministers then outlawed the group’s two successor organisations – Al-Ghurabaa and the Saved Sect – but not Al Muhajiroun itsel, as it was no longer in existence.
Now the fanatics behind the organisation have exploited this decision to reform in their original hate-filled guise. In the past, the group Al Muhajiroun has sparked controversy after calling for Sharia law in Britain and referring to the 9/11 terrorists as the ‘Magnificent 19.’ Leader Anjem Choudary led chants before saying the night was a ‘victory for Osama Muslims’
One in seven offenders convicted for terror-related offences in the UK in the last ten years have allegedly had links with the extremist radical organisation. Bakri’s former spokesman Anjem Choudary, himself a hate-filled extremist, is behind the reformation.
He boasted: ‘Al-Muhajiroun is not an illegal organisation. It has never been banned by the Home Office under the Terrorism Act.’ Al-Muhajiroun was branded illegal and demonised when it simply was not true and the prosecution have tried to use this to their advantage in a lot of court cases.’
He denied playing any part in the radicalisation of young Muslims but said he saw nothing wrong in British Asians who have been brought up in this country going off to fight against our troops for the Taliban in Afghanistan.
He said: ‘I would not go out there but others have done to fight alongside their brother and sisters who have become victims of atrocities. It is the British government who are the terrorists.’
Campaigners immediately demanded the reformed group should be banned by Home Secretary Alan Johnson.
Baroness Pauline-Neville Jones said: ‘This is going to be a test of whether the Government is serious about proscribing organisations which espouse extremism or incite violence or hatred against people, be they British or from overseas.’ (I think we know the answer to that)
Former prime minister Tony Blair pledged to ban the group four years ago, but it was never outlawed while two splinter groups, Al Gurabaa and the Saviour Sect, were proscribed. Al Muhajiroun was formed by radical preacher Omar Bakri Muhammad, who was later kicked out of Britain.
Mr Choudary’s followers provoked outrage in Luton earlier this year when they protested against soldiers returning from Iraq.
A Home Office spokesman said: ‘Proscription is a tough but necessary power to tackle terrorism. ‘Decisions on proscription must be proportionate and based on evidence that a group is concerned in terrorism as defined in the Terrorism Act 2000.
