Piara was whipped 202 times and Mamun 101 times for their alleged involvement in anti-social activity (They don’t specify what the anti-social behavior was) The conditions of the victims were stated to be critical. They were also fined with Tk 30,000 each.Piara, mother of five children, fell unconscious soon after the lashings and was taken to the Upazila Health Complex. The on-duty doctor ANM Bashir Ahmed said her condition was critical and she needed better treatment. LIVE LEAK

At least 85 Islamic sharia courts are operating in Britain, a study claimed yesterday. The astonishing figure is 17 times higher than previously accepted.
The tribunals, working mainly from mosques, settle financial and family disputes according to religious principles. They lay down judgments which can be given full legal status if approved in national law courts.
However, they operate behind doors that are closed to independent observers and their decisions are likely to be unfair to women and backed by intimidation, a report by independent think-tank Civitas said.
Commentators on the influence of sharia law often count only the five courts in London, Manchester, Bradford, Birmingham and Nuneaton that are run by the Muslim Arbitration Tribunal, a body whose rulings are enforced through the state courts under the 1996 Arbitration Act. But the study by academic and Islamic specialist Denis MacEoin estimates there are at least 85 working tribunals.
The spread of sharia law has become increasingly controversial since its role was backed last year by Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams and Lord Phillips, the Lord Chief Justice who stepped down last October. Dr Williams said a recognised role for sharia law seemed ‘unavoidable’ and Lord Phillips said there was no reason why decisions made on sharia principles should not be recognised by the national courts.
But the Civitas report said the principles on which sharia courts work are indicated by the fatwas – religious decrees – set out on websites run by British mosques.
Mr MacEoin said: ‘Among the rulings we find some that advise illegal actions and others that transgress human rights standards as applied by British courts.’
Examples set out in his study include a ruling that no Muslim woman may marry a non-Muslim man unless he converts to Islam and that any children of a woman who does should be taken from her until she marries a Muslim. Further rulings, according to the report, approve polygamous marriage and enforce a woman’s duty to have sex with her husband on his demand.
The report added: ‘The fact that so many sharia rulings in Britain relate to cases concerning divorce and custody of children is of particular concern, as women are not equal in sharia law, and sharia contains no specific commitment to the best interests of the child that is fundamental to family law in the UK.
‘Under sharia, a male child belongs to the father after the age of seven, regardless of circumstances.’
It said: ‘Sharia courts operating in Britain may be handing down rulings that are inappropriate to this country because they are linked to elements in Islamic law that are seriously out of step with trends in Western legislation.’ The study pointed out that the House of Lords ruled in a child custody case last year that the sharia rules on the matter were ‘arbitrary and discriminatory’.
And a 2003 judgment of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg said it was ‘difficult to declare one’s respect for democracy and human rights while at the same time supporting a regime based on sharia, which clearly diverges from Convention values.’
The Civitas study said the Islamic courts should no longer be recognised under British law. Its director Dr David Green said: ‘The reality is that for many Muslims, sharia courts are in practice part of an institutionalised atmosphere of intimidation, backed by the ultimate sanction of a death threat.’ The Muslim Council in Britain condemned the study for ‘ stirring up hatred’. A spokesman said: ‘Sharia councils are perfectly legitimate. There is no evidence they are intimidating or discriminatory against women. The system is purely voluntary so if people don’t like it they can go elsewhere.’
Philip Davies, Tory MP for Shipley, said: ‘Everyone should be deeply concerned about the extent of these courts. ’They do entrench division in society, and do nothing to entrench integration or community cohesion. It leads to a segregated society.
Veteran Tory Lord Tebbit provoked anger among Muslims earlier this month by comparing Islamic sharia courts to gangsters. Lord Tebbit told the Lords: ‘Are you not aware that there is extreme pressure put upon vulnerable women to go through a form of arbitration that results in them being virtually precluded from access to British law?’

I work in advertising and the lawyers would censor me in a heartbeat if I tried to put so much obvious BS into any advertisement I ever wrote.

People can expect to see the hot line (877) WHY-ISLAM and the Web site www.whyislam.org on the sides of more than 140 buses because the ICNA wants to make a point. “This is our complaint: We want to give the right picture of Islam. It is not about terrorism. It is about peace,” ICNA representative Mariam Chan said.
I took this photo in San Francisco’s Castro District, at the corner of 18th and Castro streets. As everyone knows, the Castro is the epicenter of gay activism in the United States (note the rainbow flag in the bank window). And even in this neighborhood, the ISLAM bus ads appear prominently and frequently.
However, I have not heard the slightest peep of protest about these ISLAM ads appearing in gay neighborhoods. But, you may ask, why should anyone protest? Because, as it turns out, ICNA is virulently anti-gay. On ICNA’s own Web site is this passage, calling homosexuality “a pollution of the soul”:
Marriage is the proper form of satisfying the sexual activity. Adultery, fornication or homosexuality and such things are a pollution of the souls and the purity of genealogies.
I wonder what they’d have to say about this?

He felt the need to take action after another nonprofit last fall distributed Obsession, a controversial DVD about radical Islam. Take note, the billboard was only $1,500 and Muslims across the country are more than happy to give up some cash to spread sharia across the U.S. How many 23-year-old Americans are fighting the spread of sharia in the U.S.? Or are even interested?

Since the FBI and Congress have been warned about CAIR, maybe transportation and advertising venues should be warned of groups like CAIR and ICNA’s ties to terrorism as well.

A billboard advertising the toll-free number sprang up last month on FM 1960 near Interstate 45. Similar ones have also been posted in San Antonio, Dallas, El Paso and two dozen other U.S. cities.

More importantly, what did Jesus have to say about Islam? Nothing. There was no Islam when Jesus was alive. But, what does Islam’s holy book have to say about the Christians and Jews? From Quran 5:051: “O ye who believe! take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors: They are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily Allah guideth not a people unjust.”

Broward County, Florida, Transportation spokeswoman has been duped and not only allowed terrorist-related groups to buy ads on her buses, but is now speaking positively on behalf of said terror-related groups, ignoring facts and ignoring the offensive Islamic propaganda.
The educational effort began in Chicago and has spread to other areas, including Miami-Dade and Broward, where buses have been painted with the message for eight weeks, from early November to the end of December, according to Phyllis Berry, spokeswoman for the Broward County Transportation Department.
Berry said she has fielded many calls from people who wanted to know why the county was promoting Islam.
”It’s been very interesting. . . . We have received calls and e-mail from people who expressed concerns, but after explaining that we have a policy that does not allow anyone’s religion to be demeaned and there is such a thing as the First Amendment, people still may not like it but they understand,” Berry said.
Apparently Berry doesn’t understand that Islam continually demeans all other religions

Obama kisses the feet of Saudi Terror Financiers, pulls the rug out from 9/11 terrorists’ victims.
Families who lost loved ones on September 11 are angry over the news that the Obama Administration has intervened to prevent alleged Saudi terror financiers from lawsuits. On May 29 – just five days before President Obama made his first state visit to Saudi Arabia – Solicitor General Elena Kagan filed a brief arguing that it would be “unwarranted” for the Supreme Court to hear cases brought by the families against five of Saudi King Abdullah’s closest relatives for financing the attacks. The group, named the 9/11 Families United to Bankrupt Terrorism, charges that “five Saudi princes knowingly and intentionally provided financial support to al Qaeda waging war on America.”
“By urging the high court to not review lower court decisions dismissing these these cases, the Obama Administration took the side of the Saudi princes over thousands of family members and survivors of the 9/ll attacks seeking justice and accountability in U.S. courts,” the families said.
They issued a second statement June 3, the day President Obama visited Saudi Arabia. It pointedly criticized the government as standing in the way of further investigation into 9/11:
“The Administration’s filing mocks our system of justice and strikes a blow against the public’s right to know the facts about who financed and supported the murder of 3,000 innocent people. It undermines our fight against terrorism and suggests a green light to terrorist sympathizers the world over that they can send money to al Qaeda without having to worry that they will be held accountable in the U.S. Courts for the atrocities that result.”
Motley Rice LLC, a South Carolina firm that is among the nation’s top tort-law firms, represents the September 11 families. They have put together reams of information linking the five Saudi princes to al Qaeda “in the months and years leading up to September 11, 2001.”
The solicitor general also argues that the victims’ families never alleged that the Saudi government or members of the Royal Family “personally committed the acts of terrorism against the United States or directed others to do so.” The government’s brief says that the claims that the Saudis helped finance the attacks falls outside the scope of the parameters for suing foreign governments.

The UK has demanded the immediate release of Iranian staff at its Tehran embassy who were arrested on Saturday.
Iranian media earlier reported that eight local staff at the mission had been detained for their “considerable role” in post-election riots. UK Foreign Secretary David Miliband called the arrests “harassment” and dismissed the allegations as baseless. Relations between the countries are strained after Tehran accused the UK of stoking unrest, which London denies.
Iran has repeatedly accused foreign powers – especially Britain and the US – of stoking the unrest that swept the country after the 12 June election, which handed President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad a decisive victory. BBC
One would think the UK would get a clue from seeing how Muslims in their country show their ‘appreciation’ for Britain’s over-generosity towards them.
