One son told his class about watching his dad chop off a thief’s hand for which the teacher thanked him. Didn’t say whether he brought anything with him for show and tell however.
Apparently, this was seen as a way to discourage children from stealing. I wonder what lesson they get out of watching a woman get beheaded for talking to man who wasn’t her husband or a family member?
Iran cancels air show after Russia warned them that Israel was planning to destroy 140 Iranian warplanes

DEBKAfile‘s Iranian and intelligence sources disclose that Moscow warned Tehran Friday April 17 that Israel was planning to destroy all 140 fighter-bombers concentrated at the Mehr-Abad Air Force base for an air show over Tehran on Iran’s Army Day the following day. The entire fleet was accordingly removed to remote bases and the display cancelled.
Moscow had informed the Iranians that its spy satellites and intelligence sources had picked up preparations at Israeli Air Force bases to destroy the 140 warplanes, the bulk of the Iranian air force, on the ground the night before the display, leaving its nuclear sites without aerial defense. A similar operation wiped out the entire Egyptian air fleet in the early hours of the 1967 war. DEBKA

A Saudi man has divorced his wife by text message. The man was in Iraq when he sent the message informing her she was no longer his spouse. He followed up with a telephone call to two of his relatives.
A court in the Red Sea city of Jeddah finalized the split — the first known divorce in Saudi Arabia by text message — after summoning the two relatives to check they had received word of the husband’s intention, the ARAB NEWS said. Saudi Arabia practices a strict form of Islamic Sharia law, and clerics preside over Sharia courts as judges. Under the law a man can divorce his wife by saying “I divorce you” three times.
This could certainly cut into the big fat fees divorce lawyers charge in this country.

As Pakistani militants attacked a string of petrol tankers, the US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, made a blunt warning that the government in Islamabad had relinquished power to the Taliban. Pakistan’s government “abdicated” to the Taliban by agreeing to Islamic law in part of the country, according to the US Secretary of State. Mrs. Clinton said of the decision: “I think that the Pakistani government is basically abdicating to the Taliban and to the extremists.”
And Barack Hussein Obama endorsed that agreement.
Hey, ISLAMOBAMA, your ‘moderate’ Taliban buddies will soon be moving into ISLAMABAD. Then what will you do? Maybe you can talk to them about getting rid of their nukes?

ABC News Exclusive: Torture Tape Implicates UAE Royal Sheikh.
April 22, 2009—A video tape smuggled out of the United Arab Emirates shows a member of the country’s royal family mercilessly torturing a man with whips, electric cattle prods and wooden planks with protruding nails. The man being beaten, held down, and shot at by Sheikh, Issa, is a farmer, who the prince claims cheated him out of $5,000 of grain. A man in a UAE police uniform is seen on the tape tying the victim’s arms and legs, and later holding him down as the Sheikh pours salt on the man’s wounds and then drives over him with his Mercedes SUV.
In a statement to ABC News, the UAE Ministry of the Interior said it had reviewed the tape and acknowledged the involvement of Sheikh Issa bin Zayed al Nahyan, brother of the country’s crown prince, Sheikh Mohammed. The government statement said its review found “all rules, policies and procedures were followed correctly by the Police Department.”
The 45-minute long tape was smuggled out of the country by Bassam Nabulsi, of Houston, Texas, a former business associate of Sheikh Issa. Nabulsi is now suing the Sheikh in federal court in Houston, alleging he also was tortured by UAE police when he refused to turn over the videos to the Sheikh following their falling out. Nabulsi says the video tapes were recorded by his brother, on orders from the Sheikh who liked to watch the torture sessions later in his royal palace. ABC NEWS

The Obama administration has asked a federal judge to throw out a lawsuit against Iran filed by Americans held hostage at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran 30 years ago. In court papers filed Tuesday night without any announcement, the Justice Department argued that the agreement to release the hostages, known as the Algiers Accords, precluded lawsuits against Iran.

But if you look at the video below you will see that while the agreement precluded lawsuits of Iran by the American Government, it DOES NOT prevent the American hostages from filing lawsuits.

The request comes in a $6.6 billion class-action lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Washington. Fifty-two American diplomats and military officials were held captive for more than a year at the end of Jimmy Carter’s presidency by a group of Islamist students who supported the Iranian revolution.
The hostages were released on Jan. 20, 1981, just minutes after Ronald Reagan was sworn in as the new president.

A similar lawsuit brought by the Iranian hostages was dismissed in 2000 after the government successfully argued it was banned by the Algiers Accords. The hostages argue that legislation passed by Congress last year and signed into law by President George W. Bush gives them the right to bring private lawsuits.
The lawsuit says the hostages were tortured, beaten sometimes until they lost consciousness and kept in fear of their lives, at times even lined up in front of marksmen locking their guns. It says they were imprisoned without adequate food, clothing or medical care, blindfolded with their hands tied, interrogated for hours at a time and kept in isolation for months at a time. He expressed his views in the second part of his latest book, ‘The Gaza Shirt’, published from his prison cell at al-Aqrab in southern Egypt, according to a report in the Arab daily, al-Sharq al-Awsat. He strongly criticised both groups for their actions.”Their way of acting and governing is in strong contrast with what the Prophet Mohammed did. During his time there were many disenfranchised and oppressed Muslims in Mecca, however, the prophet never declared holy war at the beginning,” said Sharif.
Sharif said what the Islamist Hamas movement did during the latest Israeli offensive in Gaza “has nothing to do with Islam” and said Islamist movements should “take responsibility and assess whether they are capable of fighting a war before unleashing it.”

HAMAS leader to address British lawmakers
April 22, 2009 LONDON (JTA) – Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal will take part in a question-and-answer session with British lawmakers.
Claire Short, a former British minister of international development who is organizing Wednesday’s meeting, drew criticism from the British government, the opposition and the Israeli government.Short, who resigned from the Blair government over the war in Iraq, organized the scheduled session during a visit to Damascus. She has been a longtime critic of Israel.
The Damascus-based Mashaal is the head of Hamas’ political bureau and is considered to be the main decision-maker in the Islamic fundamentalist organization.
A spokeswoman for the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office said that the members of parliament who plan to talk to Mashaal are doing so in a “private capacity,” adding that “there are no plans for any government contacts.” “We do not believe it is productive to talk to Hamas directly,” said the spokeswoman, adding that “Hamas is a terrorist organization. They fire rockets at innocent civilians. They put ordinary Palestinians in harms way. They murder and maim their political opponents. We believe that to talk to Hamas directly at this time would simply undermine those Palestinians who are committed to peace. JTA
HIZBOLLAH MP to visit Britain
March 28, 2009–A Hizbullah member of Lebanon’s Parliament will hold a rare meeting with British parliamentarians in London this week, the group announced Saturday.
The visit follows an announcement by Britain’s Foreign Office last month that it has contacted Hizbullah’s political wing in an attempt to reach out to its legislators. It said its ultimate aim is to encourage the group to abandon violence and play a constructive political role in the deeply divided country.
A spokeswoman, speaking anonymously in line with government policy, said the decision “is consistent with the government’s policy of exploring contacts with members of Hizbullah’s political wing.” She added that there are no plans for official meetings with government ministers, only parliamentarians. Hizbullah officials told The Associated Press last month that they welcomed talks with Britain but insisted the talks take place publicly.
Britain reviews arms exports to Israel
April 22, 2009 LONDON (JTA) — The United Kingdom will review all arms exports to Israel, Britain’s foreign secretary has announced.
During Israel’s military operation in Gaza earlier this year, British lawmakers had demanded that the government ensure its weapons parts were not used against Palestinians. At the time, Foreign Secretary David Miliband promised to look into the issue, and on Tuesday he issued a written statement detailing all direct and indirect arms exports from the United Kingdom to Israel.
In his statement Miliband promised that all export licenses would be reviewed “in light of recent events in Gaza,” adding that all future applications to export arms to Israel also will be assessed with the Gaza conflict in mind.
Miliband indicated that Britain’s military export to Israel amounts to less than 1 percent of Israel’s import of military equipment, including the export of components for American-made planes that end up in the Jewish state. JTA
London hall cancels Israeli event
April 21, 2009 LONDON (JTA) — A London theater canceled an event to celebrate Israel’s Independence Day following pressure from pro-Palestinian groups.
The Bloomsbury Theatre in the central part of the British city informed the Zionist Federation of Britain of its decision on Tuesday. The event scheduled for next week will take place at a different venue that the federation has not disclosed. The federation’s annual celebration this year was to have an Israel Defense Forces choir, invited to Britain by the Israeli Embassy in London, to perform at the main memorial event to Israeli soldiers who died in Israel’s wars.
“A number of groups had contacted the Bloomsbury to protest the show,” said a spokeswoman for the theater, adding “Obviously, we couldn’t have them perform here.”
Chris Doyle, director of the Council for Arab-British Understanding, said that holding the show “is akin to singing and dancing on the graves of the 400 Palestinian children that the IDF was responsible for killing in January. We should not be permitting a dance troupe from an army currently under a U.N. investigation for possible war crimes to be coming to the United Kingdom. It is sick.”
Some of those objecting to the performance already have announced that they would demonstrate by the new venue once they find out the details. JTA

(CNSNews.com) – Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, plans to introduce legislation as early as next week that would give Pakistan $15 billion in non-military aid over the next 10 years, according to committee staff. (Right into the hands of the terrorists)
Although the details of the Kerry-Lugar bill are still being drafted, committee staff told CNSNews.com that it will closely resemble the Biden-Lugar legislation, which cited anti-American sentiment among the Pakistani people as an obstacle to routing al Qaeda and Taliban militants from the country’s tribal region.(No, it isn’t anti-American sentiment, it’s the threat of beheadings by the Taliban)
“A critical mass of Pakistanis regard America as a greater threat than Al Qaeda,” the draft of the Biden-Lugar bill states. “Without changing this baseline, there is little likelihood of drying up popular tolerance for anti-U.S. terrorist groups, or persuading any Pakistani regime to devote the political capital necessary to deny such groups sanctuary and covert material support.”
The Biden-Lugar bill said the non-military aid would build a relationship with the Pakistani people by providing money to improve the “secular” education system, build clinics, drill wells and reform the Pakistani police. IRAN able to produce nukes within 60 days

DEBKAfile‘s military sources cite some Western intelligence and nuclear weapons experts as predicting that Iran could turn out nuclear weapons some time in the next 12 months.
Rather than translating the crisis into leverage for persuading Iran to abandon its nuclear objectives, the Obama administration has opened the door to dialogue with all the extremists of the Middle East, including Iran.
Iran, for its part, is accelerating its nuclear program, taking full advantage of the undercover communications with Washington which are aimed at gaining Tehran’s cooperation for the US war effort in Afghanistan and Pakistan. This estimate is based on Tehran’s announcement that 7,000 centrifuges are in operation to enrich uranium. If all those machines were to work at top speed day and night, seven days a week, they could produce enough weapons-grade uranium to build a bomb in 60 days, say some intelligence sources. According to American experts, given the current rate of the program’s development, Iran will be in a position to manufacture as many as 60 nuclear bombs and warheads in 12 to 18 months.
This judgment was confirmed by Israel’s military intelligence (AMAN) chief, on April 20, who reported that Iran is going all-out for enriched uranium from overseas to shorten the process.
Japanese sources recently reported that a North Korean vessel carrying an illegal cargo of uranium highly-enriched to 50-60 percent., dropped it off at an Iranian port for transport to a facility near Tehran earlier this year. DEBKA

Iran leader says “Even Iranian schoolkids are making nuclear devices in their homes!”
What will happen if Iran’s regime gets nuclear weapons?
1. A nuclear Iran will make it impossible for the West to protect its interests in the Middle East. All Western countries would be too intimidated to act in any way contrary to Iran’s desires out of concern that Iran would use nuclear weapons against itself, its troops, or others.
2. A nuclear Iran would intimidate all Arab regimes to appease Iran including, for example, rejecting Western basing rights or alliances. They might well believe that the United States is unlikely to go to nuclear war for them. Better get the best surrender terms from Tehran. This means forget about any Arab-Israeli peace. Arab cooperation with the West would plummet.
3. A nuclear Iran would lead to a huge upsurge in radical Islamist movements and their recruiting. With hundreds of thousands of Muslims joining such groups, the existence of every Arab regime would be jeopardized; terrorism and regional instability would rise.
4. Large numbers of Muslims living in the West would also join radical Islamist groups believing the day of victory is at hand and that Iran has shown the way. Terrorism and other violence and instability would rise throughout the West.
4. The price of oil, given understandable belief by consumers that the region will be more unstable will climb even higher than it is now. In addition, the tremendous power that Iran–a price hawk–would have ensures it will push up the price and the Saudis would be too intimidated to try to push it down.
5. A nuclear arms race would be triggered in the region which would greatly increase the likelihood of a nuclear war between two or more Middle East countries as well as such weapons getting into the hands of terrorists. RUBIN REPORTS

The 26-page report, “Under Cover of War: Hamas Political Violence in Gaza,” documents a pattern since late December 2008 of arbitrary arrests and detentions, torture, maimings by shooting, and extrajudicial executions by alleged members of Hamas security forces. The report is based on interviews with victims and witnesses in Gaza and case reports by Palestinian human rights groups. The spate of attacks began during Israel’s military operation, from December 27, 2008, to January 18, 2009, including the summary execution of 18 men in Gaza, most of them suspected collaborators with Israel.It has continued in the three months since, with 14 more killings, at least four of them of people in detention. Internal political violence in Gaza and the West Bank is not new. Over the past three years, Hamas and its chief rival, Fatah, which controls the West Bank, have carried out arbitrary arrests of each other’s supporters and subjected detainees to torture and ill-treatment.
